The Cadillac CTS-V coupe is the best kind of excess. It’s fast, refined, and comfortable. The steering is feelsome and responsive, the chassis possessed of nimble reflexes that belie the car’s weight. The seats are comfortable, the interior decently crafted.

Finally, an answer to the onslaught of crossovers and SUVs we’ve come to expect from domestic automakers. Cadillac has one of the few performance vehicles that can suit the needs of an entire family without giving up the driving experience an enthusiast craves.

Soon, the CTS-V Sport Wagon’s going to end up at the Nurbürgring and it’s going to put down a time close enough to the sedan to prove a little added weight and a lot of extra sex appeal don’t contribute to anything less than the world’s most fearsome production station wagon.

If it weren’t for the poor fuel economy, the 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe would work well as both a weekend racer and a daily commute car, combining exceptional sport performance with practical cabin tech.

The Coupe is priced heads-up with the sedan at $62,990 plus a mandatory gas-guzzler charge. It really has no competition in the marketplace, so if you want one, feel free to take the plunge. I’d buy the wagon and pay the 200-pound weight penalty, since the Coupe is tight for me.
