The Nissan GT-R’s incredible performance and ease of use will make it a favorite of performance junkies. That it costs less than $100,000 while achieving performance that usually costs at least twice that boggles the mind — and being able to drive it so easily blew my mind.

The Nissan GT-R is a serious piece of machinery, a brooding masterpiece of computer-enhanced handling, sophisticated all-wheel-drive and quaint, galling force.

The real achievement of this 2012 Nissan GT-R is not that it has been made faster but that it is now both easier to drive and more entertaining. In short, the one missing piece of the puzzle, let’s call it the human factor, has been found and added.

The GT-R remains what it was when it entered the market five years ago: an engineering masterpiece of a supercar that you can drive every day, in the vein of the Audi R8 and Porsche 911 Turbo, albeit for considerably less money than the Germans.

The 2012 GT-R’s more responsive suspension and angrier engine up the ante considerably. Even as it approaches the treacherous six-figure mark, the Nissan GT-R remains a remarkable performance bargain.

The GT-R remains what it was when it entered the market five years ago: an engineering masterpiece of a supercar that you can drive every day, for considerably less money than the Germans. And with each year’s evolution it becomes ever more capable and, more importantly, fun to drive.

The GT-R cares only for immoderate, shameless speed. While it doesn’t look like a high-dollar supercar, it’s actually one of the most shameless examples I’ve ever driven.

The 2012 Nissan R35 GT-R (12MY M/C) represents improvement by half-degrees. Message to owners of older GT-Rs: You have nothing to be ashamed of. Your vehicle is still a stunning, ballistic Corvette killer, even next to the new machine.

The 2012 Nissan GT-R is a dedicated sports car, a high-tech weapon for the track, and entirely suitable for winding public roads. But it is not the most practical for day-to-day driving.
